At Crumpet Club, we’d love to help #PayTheRent where we can, and where can help is with design!
Why we Pay the Rent
Pay the Rent acknowledges that sovereignty was never ceded and that we operate our business on the stolen land of the Kulin Nation. We believe our responsibility extends beyond mere acknowledgement, and donating our services is a tangible way to support the self-determination of the Traditional Owners of this land.
As we are a small business, we have found that donating our time and expertise is where we can add the most value. We aim to donate one project slot per quarter to an Indigenous-owned and run business, to help them achieve their business goals, reach their desired audience, and put their best foot forward.
How we Pay the Rent
Connection stage
Leading up to each project time slot, we’ll put a call out for expressions of interest to connect with your Indigenous-owned businesses that may need design help, whether that’s a branding suite, marketing collateral, website work, social media graphics, or other brand assets. It’s completely up to you to work out what you think will give the most impact for your brand.
Scoping stage
We make sure we thoroughly understand the needs of your business, how our services align, and confirm what we’re offering, including terms like how long the project will take and what the final outcomes will be. Once we’re all happy with the brief, we’ll formalise it over email or a call with you, and then get it all underway!
Concept stage
The project kicks off and we’ll walk you through our processes depending on what we are working on together. We might be designing new brand visuals for you and beginning with a mood board; a new website would mean a look at some detailed wireframes; we could start with some concept sketches for your new product packaging; the list goes on! This is the time we’d be working with you to turn your ideas into an action plan for a bold new reality.
Bringing it to life
With a solid foundation and action plan in place, we’ll be doing the bulk of the final phase for you, taking into consideration everything we’ve discussed leading up to this point. We’ll present the design work to you, make any final refinements that you need, and finally package it all up for you ready to hit the ground running.
Ongoing work
After our project wraps up, we are also available to help with ongoing design needs at a special design rate just for you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at any stage of working together, and we can chat about how we can help.
We’d love to connect
🖤💛❤️
Our current project slot is currently at capacity, but our door is always open. We welcome expressions of interest from Indigenous-owned businesses at any time so we can plan for upcoming opportunities. We’d love to connect, learn about your vision, and explore how our creative services can best support your long-term goals.

The Pay The Rent program is organised by First Nations and non-First Nations people working together as the Pay The Rent Grassroots Collective. It is based on the lands of the Kulin Nation in Victoria, Australia, however its impact spans nationally. This initiative honours the Sovereignty of Aboriginal and First Nations people by working directly with them, and ensuring funds are distributed to grassroots causes and campaigns without intervention.
